Local artists display their work at Miners Dry starting Wednesday
Members of the time-honored Ely Watercolor Club will yet again present hundreds of fine examples of their paintings, gift bags, and greeting cards this summer at the Miners Dry building, Wednesday through Sunday, July 17-21, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Their paintings include a great variety of subjects and techniques and have held the interest of the public over the years.
The watercolorists have offered the show each year since its inception 44 years ago.
Past-on members included founder Marguerite Hogan, and other notable painters such as Alberta Olson, Helen Kuehlman, Lois Struna, John Pierce, Myrna Kirkman, Sue Smith and Gerry Ryberg; examples their work can be seen on the walls of the Ely Area Credit Union.
Current members’ works are in the collections of locals, and many visitors from Minnesota, other states, and countries, who attend the show each year.
The 2023 show had over 1,200 guests perusing nearly 1,000 works of varied subjects and techniques.
Current members of the club include familiar names: Claire Taylor, John Weidemann, Sandy Brandley, Holly Rom, Diane Levar, Scott King, and Cecilia Rolando; new members include Nadine Long and Karl Everett.
Several of these artists participate in the Ely Art Walk, have had NLAA art shows at the State Theater, and individual showings at various regional art galleries.
The artists paint individually but then come together for this annual showing at the Dry. They meet monthly at Frandsen Bank to share recent work and plan the big exhibit and sale.
Members busily paint all year long in anticipation of the Ely Watercolor Club Show and Sale and ask that you mark your calendar to attend next week’s show!
