A special meeting was called by Fall Lake supervisors to address the distribution of recreational funds.
This came about due to tabling any action at the regular June meeting because Supervisor Sheila Gruba raised concerns as to how the recreational funds were being dispersed. Gruba sited state statutes as how funds were to be awarded.
Supervisor Eric Hart said he reviewed the state statutes since the June 5 meeting. He divided recreational fund requests received into categories. He said there would be a hurt for everybody in reducing funds awarded.
The categories are public recreation and entertainment to receive $500; Seniors to receive $500; Sports boosters and youth groups to receive $400; and Rec Clubs to receive $1,000. Gruba and Supervisor Craig Seliskar approved the categories and the amounts for each.
For the requests received to date:
• Junior/Senior Prom & Banquet - no action as their events had passed, and according to statute it didn’t fit.
• All Night Grad Party – no action as the event had already taken place.
• D.C. Senior Trip - no action as the trip had taken place.
• Ely Golf Team - $400
• Ely High Kick Club - $400
• ECR - $400
• Ely Historic State Theater - $500
• Ely 4th of July - $500
• Ely Golf Club - $500 Hart named the statute for each donation made. He said individual groups also do their own fund raising. Additional funds could be awarded if a greater need was presented in their request.
For recreational requests received following the meeting, they will be awarded as they come in according to the statute they fit into.
Upcoming meetings:
• The next regular township meeting will be on Wednesday, July 3 at 6 p.m.
• The Morse/Fall Lake Fire Department Board meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 17 at 6 p.m. at Fall Lake Town Hall.
• Lake County Planning & Zoning will hold a meeting for Silver Rapids Lodge expansion on Thursday, July 18 at 4 p.m. at Fall Lake Town Hall.
