A film will be premiered on June 26 about the memories of graduates from Ely Memorial High School. The film features graduates from 1942-2024 and was developed by the City of Ely’s Heritage Preservation Commission (HPC) as part of an oral histories project funded by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
“We were very fortunate to bring 13 graduates together who attended Ely Memorial High School over a period of eight decades,” said Margaret Egan, Co-Chair of the HPC. “The personal stories they shared tell how the High School has served as the cornerstone for community life.”
Kelly Klun, one of the graduates interviewed for the film, said, “I am so proud to have graduated from Ely Memorial, the teachers and fellow students have impacted my life in so many positive ways. It is truly a treat and honor to reflect upon the generations of ambitious, optimistic, and fun-loving graduates. This is a testament to the power of our great community.”
The event will be held at the Ely Historic State Theater and admission is free. At 6:30 p.m. there will be a meet and greet followed by the program at 7 p.m.
The event will be hosted by the Ely-Winton Historical Society as part of their History Night program. Reed Petersen will lead a discussion on the history of Ely Memorial High School and the film featuring the graduates will be shown.
