Will Ely be a one stoplight town?

Will Ely be a one stoplight town?

The Minnesota Department of Transportation is hosting two meetings to discuss the study of Sheridan and Central Avenue and Sheridan and Third Avenue intersections in Ely.

A meeting for area business owners is Monday, June 17, at 3 p.m. in the Ely City Hall Council Chambers, 209 E. Chapman St. A meeting for the general public is also June 17 at 5 p.m. in the same location.

The signal lights at these intersections are nearing the end of their useful life, and MnDOT is studying the two intersections to determine how they are functioning and what traffic control should replace the signals. Multiple options are being studied, and no particular option is favored at this time.

The last time this occured MnDOT removed the stoplights at Sheridan and First Avenue East.

The public is encouraged to participate in the online survey and provide feedback on how the intersections function.

Both meetings include a presentation and time for questions. For those unable to attend in person, visit the project website at mndot.gov/ d1/projects/ely_ice for more information and to fill out the survey.
