State House race now set

State House race now set

Skraba, Droba move to November

It’s on to the general election for both State Rep. Roger Skraba (R) of Ely and his DFL challenger.

Skraba, who is seeking a second term in office, won’t face primary opposition nor will Droba, the International Falls mayor who is trying to unseat him. A late filing was posted to the Secretary of State website listing Forward Party Independent Rich True.

A statewide filing period closed Tuesday and neither candidate has a challenger from within.

Several primaries, however, are in the works, in state and federal races.

Both U.S. Rep. Pete Stauber (R) and his most high-profile DFL opposition, former Duluth lawmaker Jen Schultz, must clear primary hurdles to move on to the general election.

Stauber faces former Duluth school board member Harry Welty and Schultz square off with John Munter. In the U.S. Senate race, three-term incumbent Amy Klobuchar is on the ballot with four lesser-known challengers while eight candidates are in the Republican primary, including the party- endorsed Royce White and Joe Fraser.

Closer to home, the race to replace retiring State Rep. Dave Lislegard (D-Aurora) has drawn three contenders.

Lorrie Janatapolous of Eveleth in the lone Democrat in the race while Republicans vying for the seat are Cal Warwas and Matt Matasich. The primary election is set for Aug. 13.
