The local slow-pitch softball season is underway at the newly-renamed Jerome Debeltz Fields.
Only four teams are involved in this year’s league, down from previous years, although a perennial powerhouse is off to a strong start.
Anderson/Nickerson Construction won twice on Monday night to get off to a 2-0 start.
Also 2-0 after the opening week is Ely Liquor. Anderson/Nickerson downed Zup’s 18-1 and Insula 9-6 during opening night action, while Ely Liquor picked up an 11-1 win against Insula and downed Zup’s 14-4.
The teams play each Monday evening, starting at 6 p.m., with league action continuing into early-August.
