State meet next for NRE

Girls slated to golf at Becker

Northeast Range/Ely will participate on high school golf’s grandest stage this week, and on a championship level course.

After winning the Section 7A title at McGregor nearly two weeks ago, NRE will next take part in the State Class A Girls Golf Meet, set for Tuesday and Wednesday at Becker.

Senior Abby Koivisto, who finished third in the 7A competition and has previous state meet experience will lead the way.

NRE will battle seven other section champion teams for the state crown on the difficult Pebble Creek course. The teams will battle over two days and 36 holes.

NRE easily topped Pine River-Backus for the 7A team title, taking the section crown going away by 31 strokes.

Koivisto and NRE’s Maizy Sundblad, Cylvia DeBeltz and Danica Sundblad were all among the top-10 in the section, while Carena DeBeltz and Ezra Chamberlin round out the state roster.

The team will leave Sunday for Becker, practice on the course and attend a state meet banquet on Monday night.
