Fall Lake clerk Cheri DeBeltz gave an update at Wednesday night’s meeting on the plan for a new multi-purpose community center for Fall Lake.
Several citizens and Lake County Commissioner Joe Baltich visited the Finland Clair Nelson Community Center to get some ideas for a building.
“The USDA has grant money available for community centers,” said Baltich. “Finland has a great building with a commercial kitchen, auditorium, offices, and meeting rooms that can accommodate large groups. We have no emergency area to house people if there is a fire or whatever.”
Township supervisor Sheila Gruba attended a Firewise workshop that was presented at the Town of Morse and Fall Lake. She said we need an action plan. She suggested a meeting be set up with Firewise to devise a plan. An ad will be place in the Ely Echo for the date and time of the meeting.
Township supervisor Craig Seliskar said the township needs to be more involved with RAMS. The next meeting on June 10 would be a good time to let them know about a plan for a new community center. Seliskar said he had toured the Mesabi Metallics Nashwauk project. He said they have quite the project there.
DeBeltz informed the board that Lake County has a new Environmental Service person, Colleen Wallin who wants to come for a visit.
Debeltz asked to purchase a recording device for township meeting, rather than using her personal cell phone. The board approved this purchase up to $500.
DeBeltz suggested a tentative meeting date of Thursday, June 20 with Jim Robbins to come to the town hall and go over the township’s IT and video conference equipment so all supervisors know how to set up conference meetings if she is unavailable.
DeBeltz said she received a notice that Clyde Peterson’s rate for mowing for 2024 will be $250/mile. This is an increase from last year.
Seliskar said there is a grant for the Presidential Primary to cover election judge and other costs. The township will receive $1,714.10 in reimbursement.
Supervisor Sheila Gruba suggested a per diem be established for out-of-town meetings. Hart suggested a lodging and per diem at the government rate, and discuss if the rate is over that amount. He said the clerk will make all reservations with the township credit card.
