Archers claim nine medals in opener

Fifth-grader MacCoy gets two firsts

Several Ely students were among the top finishers as the local archery season got underway last weekend.

Ely’s End of the Road Archers brought home nine medals, including two first-place finishes by fifth-grader Aspen MacCoy, at a tournament hosted by Mesabi East.

In addition to nine medals for first through fifth place, the Ely team had another 12 participants who were in the top-10 in their respective divisions.

Two Ely archers scored a perfect 50 - Teddy Johnson at the bear for 3D and Laydan Hart at the 15 meter for bullseye.

Ely  qualified as a team in both the elementary division and the middle school division.

The elementary team placed first in 3D and third in bullseye, while the middle school team placed second in 3D and third in bullseye.

MacCoy scored 219 to win the fifth-grade girls division while Wyatt Carlson recorded a third-place finish among fifth-grade boys.

Ely’s highest score in 3D was turned in by Cylvia DeBeltz, who recorded a 277 to take fourth in the high school girls division.

Other Ely 3D medalists were Ari Hart (202, third place, fourth-grade boys), Jenna Bermel (193, fifth place, fifth-grade girls) and Ryker Russ (181, fifth place, fourth-grade boys).

MacCoy also won the bullseye division among fifth-grade girls with a score of 252, while Laydan Hart had the top Ely bullseye score at 277, on his way to a third-place finish among middle school boys.

Ely’s Hayden Weidemann scored 270 to take fifth in the middle-school boys division.

The 3D personal bests from Ely were scored by Sawyer Anderson, Wyatt Carlson, Max Ice, Teddy Johnson and Carrington Kosinski

Ely’s bullseye personal best were by Anderson, Ice, Carrington Kosinski, Hunter Kosinski and Mason Lee.
