To the wonderful people of Ely Minnesota!
John Hallson and I, Tilly Jones, had the wonderful opportunity to bring our business, Lost Creek Bags to the Ely Blueberry Festival this last weekend. Our company was originally purchased from a member of your community, Whitey Carlson of Carlson Leather. This weekend was our first opportunity to bring the history of Carlson Leather back to the Ely area. We want to thank all of the many people that stopped into our tent to say hello and to bring us their own personal stories of Whitey, you all brought him alive for us and helped us to further understand the magnificent heritage we have the joy of continuing. Our visit to Ely was fantastic thanks to all of you and we look forward to returning for the Harvest Moon festival if possible, and most certainly for next years Blueberry Festival! thank you thank you John and Tilly of Lost Creek Bags!

Visited Ely last fall-perfect visit. Please note:
Dear Friends of Bears,
This has been a wild and wonderful year so far for both the North American Bear Center and the Wildlife Research Institute. We were swept off our feet by the popularity of the Lily Den Cam. We thought interest might wane when Lily and Hope left the den, but it hasn’t. People are enthralled by the day to day drama of these bears’ lives. This interest in bears and the generosity of the Lily-Hope fans is heartwarming!
Many opportunities have come our way because of this interest in bears, the Bear Center, and our research. Perhaps the greatest opportunity is the current Chase Community Giving Grant.
Chase Community Giving has created an entirely new approach to corporate philanthropy—letting people like you help decide where the money goes!
ON JULY 13, CHASE WILL ANNOUNCE 200 WINNING CHARITIES • One charity will receive $250,000 • 4 runners-up will receive $100,000 • 195 others will receive $20,000
The North American Bear Center is currently #5 and the Wildlife Research Institute is currently #12 in list of charities! ‘Lily the Black Bear’ Facebook fans have put us in the running—and with your help we can stay there!
You can help ensure these organizations are among the winning charities by voting and sharing your enthusiasm with your friends and family!
You need to have a Facebook account and ‘Like’ Chase Community Giving to vote. If you don’t already have a Facebook account, please consider setting one up for the duration of this contest. Have a Facebook savvy friend help you if needed. Your vote will make a difference!
Each person gets 20 votes, but you can only vote once for each organization. Once you have placed 5 votes you get one ‘gift’ vote you can give away to someone else who hopefully will vote for the North American Bear Center.

I vacation in Ely every year and plan on moving there after retirement. However, looking through fishing photos from the areas bait shops, I gotta wonder, will there still be good fishing in 20 years? There are many photos of mishandled fish, fish bleeding everywhere, and I know there are many photos of tourists holding fish that ARE NOT legal size. Over the years of fishing here I have only seen DNR 1 time and it was no where near a lake. Love to hear your thoughts on this, thanks.

Nice to see that Ely has received recognition for being Minnesota's #1 small town. But we already knew that. :) Just sold Grama Ely's house last week. It was a sad day for all as it was in the family for over 100 years. We're going to miss the house but will continue to visit Ely and it's great people.
