$250,000 winning lottery ticket sold at Ely Short Stop

The Short Stop convenience store chain in Northern, Minn. was certainly not short on luck in last night’s Powerball drawing.
The Virginia-based company, with 17 gas stations located in Duluth and across the Iron Range, sold two Powerball with Power Play tickets worth $250,000 in the Jan. 10 drawing.
The winning tickets were purchased at Voyageur Short Stop, located at 1815 E. Sheridan St. in Ely and Hibbing Short Stop II, located at 1121 E. Howard St. in Hibbing.
The lucky ticket holders matched four of the first five numbers plus the Powerball number, which is normally worth $50,000. Because they added the Power Play multiplier option for an extra dollar when they purchased their tickets, their prizes were multiplied by 5 (the Power Play number drawn) to win $250,000 each.
The winning Powerball numbers for Jan. 10 are 7-24-33-49-50 and the Powerball is 4.
In Minnesota, lottery players have one year from the drawing date to claim prizes. The winners are encouraged to sign the back of their tickets and call the Lottery at 651-635-8273, press option 2, to make arrangements to claim the prize.
Lottery players have won more than $7 billion.
