Henry Harger, 83, of Ely, dies

Funeral set for Tuesday

Henry C. Harger, 83, of Ely, passed away at St. Raphael’s Health and Rehabilitation Center in Eveleth on Thursday, September 7, 2017. Henry C. Harger, 83, of Ely, Minnesota, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, September 7, 2017.
Born in Elmhurst, Illinois, Henry (“Hank”) served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He met and was married to Virginia Tyler shortly after his return from military service. They raised two daughters.
Hank loved the outdoors and especially fishing. He retired from his job with the electric company of northern Illinois after nearly 40 years of service and then moved to Ely. He had a lifelong passion for singing that began in his school days. Hank sang with the Navy Blue Jacket Choir while in the service and continued singing in the choirs of the churches where they lived, most recently in the Grace Lutheran Church choir, Ely, for the past twenty-five years.
His parents, William and Edna, two sisters, and a brother preceded Hank in death. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Virginia; daughter Debra Hargersilver (Frank Silver) of Tulsa, OK, and granddaughters Hannah Ruth and Keziah; daughter Donna Hway (Jeffrey Hway) of Ely, a grandson, Zachary (Bethany), and great grandchildren, Charlie and Lucy, of Minneapolis; a grandson, Jacob (Jessica), and great grandchildren Thomas and Mckayla, of Ely; a grandson, Joshua (Erica) of Minneapolis; a grandson Benjamin (Liana) of Ely; and a sister, Ruth, in Ohio.
Funeral services for Henry Harger were held on Tuesday, September 12, 2017, at Grace Lutheran Church. Pastor Tim Cook officiated. Burial was in Ely Cemetery with military honors. Family arrangements have been entrusted to Kerntz Funeral Home of Ely.
