Gardner, Bercher first at Trezona Run

FEMALE WINNER - Evelyn Bercher (314), a senior on Ely’s high school girls cross country team won the women’s division at last Saturday’s four-mile run around the Trezona Trail. She is running side-by-side with her father, Tim (373), who was seventh in the men’s division. Close behind was Ely track and cross country coach Jayne Dusich (321).

New champions were crowned Saturday in the annual Labor Day weekend run around the Trezona Trail.
Nick Gardner of Stillwater was the overall winner, while high school senior Evelyn Bercher was first among females in the Trezona Trail Run/Walk, held Saturday.
Gardner, 21, won with plenty of room to spare. He completed the four-mile course in 23 minutes, 27.5 seconds. That was more than a minute better than runner-up Blake Dronen, 45. He finished in 25:04.3.
Bercher, who is part of Ely’s high school cross country team won the female division in 30:24.3 and topped her coach, Jayne Dusich, who was next at 30:51.
Those were among the highlights of the race around the Trezona, which for the last two years has been s scheduled to coincide with Labor Day, rather than Harvest Moon Festival, weekend.Complete resukts in this week’s Ely Echo.
