Fishing still great in Ely area as season winds down

David Lynch, Spearfish, SD was cruising the shallow waters of Johnson Lake, tossing a Booyah Frog from Babe’s Bait & Tackle when this largemouth bass exploded onto his lure.

Erin Miller, Denver, IA let go the 27 inch, 7 lb. walleye she caught and released on Pipestone Bay, while a guest at Packsack Canoe Outfitters and Log Cabins.

A Dreamcatcher led to Trent Monson of Ely landing this 47” muskie that dreams are made of on Lake Vermilion. Entries from Babe’s Bait & Tackle.
Trenton Monson, Ely used a tinsel Buchertail to coax this 37” northern pike to bite on Basswood Lake and found that a Rapala Shad Rap did the trick to entice this 39” northern pike to hit while fishing Indiana Lake.
Check out the size of the lure that Trenton Monson, Ely used to catch this 26 “ walleye from Wind Lake. That’s a Buchertail normally used for pike and muskie. It shows that hungry walleyes aren’t leader shy. He pulled this 23” splake (left) from Hogback Lake while fishing with a Rapala.

As the North Country Angler winds up its summer season, fish are still being caught. Some are released and some grace a dinner table. Look for the wrap up in next week’s Ely Echo.
