Melvin “Memo” Mathew Janeksela, 74 of Winton, dies

Melvin “Memo” Mathew Janeksela, 74 of Winton, lost his battle with cancer on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at the Boundary Waters Care Center.
Melvin was born to Matthew and Emmi (Hokanen) Janeksela on September 28, 1942 in Ely. He graduated from Ely Memorial High School and attended college in Albert Lee and Mesabi for welding. He worked for the USFS, Tenant, LTV, and owned the Timber Inn.
Melvin joined the Army and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War, but was honorably discharged due to injuries he sustained there.
Melvin married the love of his life Judith Anne (Johnson) on August 26, 1972 at the Longbranch in Winton. They had four children together. Melvin enjoyed fishing and hunting at the shack; he may not have hunted the best, but he was the best camp cook. He loved to watch Minnesota Vikings, Wild, and Twins with his son, grandson, and nephew. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. Of all of his accomplishments he was most proud of kids and grandchildren.
Melvin was preceded in death by his wife Judith (Johnson), twin sons Brent and Brant, his parents Mathew and Emmi, sisters: Lorraine, Carol, and Marlette, brothers: Sheldon (Lefty) and Dennis.
He is survived by his children: Bret (Jennifer) Janeksela of Winton and Amy Janeksela of Ely; grandchildren: Caleb, Connnor, Joshua and Chloe; and special nephew: DJ.
His family will be having a celebration of life on August Saturday, 26 at the Winton Longbranch from 4-10. Put your dancing shoes on because anyone who knew Memo knew he loved to dance.
A burial will follow at a later date at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer, Iowa where he will be reunited with his wife and twin sons.
