Cemetery Clean-Up Days May 20-28

The Ely Cemetery Committee has designated May 20-28 as Cemetery Clean-Up Week. Those who are interested in working on their own family plots or even those of others in need of attention are urged to help beautify the cemetery. Dirt will be provided by the City in several locations around the cemetery, tools will NOT be provided. Seeding or sodding needs to be done by individuals.

Please remove faded and deteriorating artificial floral arrangements and other decorations. The wire these contain causes problems with the lawn mowers and trimmers.

Trash and compost containers will be available May 20-28, as long as they are not abused.

Plans are being finalized to construct a new information kiosk at the cemetery which will include cemetery map, burial listings, and rules for the cemetery. Section markers are also being updated and replaced. Plans are also being formulated to reconstruct the water lines and spigots in the cemetery.

Additional cemetery information is available on the City of Ely website, Ely City Clerk’s Office and Ely-Winton Historical Society.

The Ely Cemetery has made great strides with mowing and other maintenance in the past few years due to a dedicated summer crew and new equipment. Thanks to everyone who has made a greater effort to help maintain and beautify grave sites.

Donations to the cemetery fund are most welcome as the cemetery budget is quite limited, donations can be sent to City of Ely, Cemetery Fund, 209 E Chapman St, Ely, MN 55731.

Mark your Calendar for May 20-28 to help beautify the Ely Cemetery. Ely Echo May 13, 20 & May 27, 2017
