Thomas J. Strezishar, 85, of Babbitt, dies

THOMAS JAMES STREZISHAR, 85, passed away peacefully in his sleep during the early morning of Tuesday, March 14, 2017. Tom was born in Ely on January 8, 1932 to Jacob and Mary (Melovasich) Strezishar. He attended Ely High School and enlisted in the US Army. On April 25, 1952 he married Stefani Schager at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Ely, moving to Babbitt in 1964. Tom retired from Reserve Mining in 1983 and later found employment with TireCycle and the Babbitt School District. He loved spending time with family and friends, hosting backyard parties, entertaining everyone with his button box accordion, and winning at cribbage. For many years, he donned a white beard and red suit as Santa Claus to bring cheer to children of all ages. He was a member of St. Pius Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and American Legion. He is survived by his wife Stefani, four children: James, Babbitt; Veronica (Richard) Ahlfs, Crandon, WI; Theresa (Michael) Ostazeski, Morton, IL; and Thomas (Michelle), East Grand Forks, MN. He is further survived by sisters, Marie Fink and Patricia Lammi and many nieces, nephews, ten grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by infant daughter Rose Mary and Cynthia, his parents, and brothers, Jack and Dick.
Funeral services will be held at St. Pius Catholic Church Saturday, March 18th at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to your favorite charity. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Kerntz Funeral Home of Ely, MN.
