Judith Mackie, 76, of Babbitt, formerly of Ely, dies
Judy Mackie, 76, technically of Babbitt’s Carefree Assisted Living, but in her heart always Ely, passed away on February 9, 2017, after battling a long illness.
Judy took great pride in being a citizen of Ely, the faculty secretary for many years at Vermilion Community College and a member of the Grace Lutheran Church. The family gives heartfelt thanks to all that helped Judy during her long illness, especially our mother’s other half and cousin Luana Riikola, who orchestrated, arranged and attended everything single thing with our mother. It was because of Luana and the wonderful people of the Ely area that our mother was able to stay up in the area she loved so much.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents Toumi Ahola and Aune Ahola Gheen, her husband Paul Mackie, her brother Richard “Slim” Ahola, sister and brother-in-law Paula and Frank Zupec, and nephew Rory Vesel.
Judy is survived by her kids: Dale and Dawn LeRoy, her sister Barbara Vesel, grandson Jacob LeRoy, great-grandchildren Jacob Carter LeRoy and Jazmin Nicole LeRoy, Luana Riikola and numerous other loving relatives.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Kerntz Funeral Home of Ely and a Celebration of Life will be held at a date later to be determined.
